Happy 3rd Anniversary to the She's A Hound Initiative and thank you to Chair, Arlene Kennedy '69 and committee members for your hard work and dedication! The following message is sent on behalf of the SAH Initiative Chair as the Initiative celebrates its third anniversary since inception:

Hello Hounds, Friends of Notre Dame and the She’s A Hound community!

On this day October 11th, 2023, we proudly celebrate She’s A Hound’s third anniversary and 103 years since the Sisters of Charity of St. Louis set foot in Wilcox.

Each year brings new events, initiatives, and successes. And also new and renewed connections that are contributing to a sense of a growing shared awareness of the great Women of Notre Dame.

NEW SAH HAPPENINGS ‘22-23:
SAH completed the redecoration of Mother Teresa Hall (MTH) lounge with the purchase of new coffee tables and a piano bench.

With thanks to Hounds Yvette '89 and Darren Shanahan '90 of the Alberta Alumni Chapter, SAH was honored to be a part of celebrating a great Notre Dame woman, Lois Mooney, at the inaugural Lois Mooney legacy dinner in Calgary on January 9th. SAH was privileged to share its’ story and objectives with a room full of outstanding Alumni!

In a subsequent conversation, Lois shared her incredible story and this eloquent message for our female students: “Self-respect. Have pride and confidence in yourself and behave with honor and dignity. Make your story one that you’d be proud to share with your grandchildren.”~ Lois Mooney ’51.
On the May Long Weekend, SAH hosted its first ever Memories and Musings event at Mother Teresa Hall (MTH). The highlight of the Open House was (Sr.) Yvette, our revered guest who regaled everyone with her stories of what it was like to be a teacher at Notre Dame in 1967-71. More than 50 Hounds dropped by to share their stories, have a tour of MTH by the girls, and most importantly have a chance to visit and get to know our girls. The success of this event has inspired us to start planning for May long weekend '24 with our MTH designates to make this event even more exciting!

Ange Frymire '73: "Watching our young female Hounds so engaged with the She's A Hound event at the 2023 May long weekend reunion was captivating! They were enthralled with the stories, the legends and the feats of past female Hounds. These students were visibly impressed with how their female elders are still going strong 2,4,and 6 decades later.

Passing down generational knowledge and possibilities is a gift that enriches the storytellers, the audiences and yesterdays' leaders. She's A Hound impacts these young women who are tomorrow's leaders, teachers and pioneers. What a multi-generational legacy!"

Twenty-seven new Friends of Notre Dame showed their support of our Initiative and helped increase the total donations to $12,000.

SHE’S A HOUND LOOKING AHEAD ‘23-24:
- Goal #1 for year 4 is to launch an initiative in honour of outstanding Alumnae who epitomized the Notre Dame Woman in every sense of the word – Jean Housdorff (Nepper, Dombowsky, Carr) '52. Stay tuned for this VERY exciting announcement! Read more on Jean: https://bbk12e1-cdn.myschoolcdn.com/.../misc/misc_223417.pdf

- Goal #2 is to (finally!) take the SAH stories to print.

RECOGNITION AND GRATITUDE:
She’s A Hound is proud to recognize the first ND female Hockey team that was formed 50 years ago – to them and to all of our female Hockey players who have taken the game to where it is today, we are so very proud of you!
