ESL Summer Camp

Notre Dame is offering a 2-week ESL (English as a Second Language) summer camp that is an exciting, immersive experience designed to build your child's English skills while engaging them in fun, interactive, and culturally rich activities.  Camps are co-ed and for ages 12-17.

Camp Overview (5 Days)

Theme:
“Explore the World in English”
Goal: Build confidence in speaking, listening, reading, and writing English through real-life communication and project-based learning.
Language Focus: Functional communication, vocabulary expansion, pronunciation, and fluency.
Core Skills: Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing, Collaboration, and Cultural Awareness.
Class Duration: 4–6 hours per day

Below is a sample outline and daily plan for the first week of camp that balances language learning
with creativity, communication, and teamwork.

  • Day 1 - Welcome to Camp & Communication Basics

    Theme: Getting to Know You & Team Building
    Morning:
    • Icebreakers & Name Games — “Find Someone Who…” / “Two Truths and a Lie”
    • Language Focus: Greetings, introductions, asking simple questions
    • Mini-Lesson: Small talk and conversational English phrases
    Afternoon:
    • Activity: Create Team Flags and Mottos (group work + presentations)
    • Listening & Speaking: Introduce your group to the class
    • Cultural Corner: “Where I’m From” – students share about their home countries
    Goal: Build comfort speaking English and form community bonds.
  • Day 2 – Around the World

    Theme: Exploring Cultures through English
    Morning:
    • Language Focus: Vocabulary – countries, nationalities, travel, and geography
    • Reading Activity: Short travel blogs or postcards
    • Grammar Mini-Lesson: Simple past (talking about travel experiences)
    Afternoon:
    • Project: “My Dream Vacation” – plan a trip and present it
    • Game: “English Travel Quiz” or “Guess the Country”
    Goal: Use English to describe places, compare cultures, and present ideas confidently.
  • Day 3 – Creative Communication

    Theme: English Through Art, Drama, and Storytelling
    Morning:
    • Language Focus: Descriptive language and adjectives
    • Writing Activity: Create a short story or comic strip
    • Listening & Speaking: Storytelling circle
    Afternoon:
    • Drama Workshop: Create and perform short skits
    • Pronunciation Focus: Expression, tone, and fluency
    Goal: Build expressive and creative English use through performance and writing.
  • Day 4 – Real-World English

    Theme: English for Everyday Life
    Morning:
    • Language Focus: Functional English – shopping, directions, ordering food, etc.
    • Role Plays: “At a Restaurant” / “Asking for Help” / “Giving Directions”
    Afternoon:
    • Field Trip (optional): Local market, park, or museum scavenger hunt (English-only challenge)
    • Journal Writing: “Today I used English to…” reflection
    Goal: Practice practical English in real-life contexts.
  • Day 5 – Celebration & Presentation Day

    Theme: Show What You Learned
    Morning:
    • Review Games: Kahoot! or “Jeopardy” style quiz
    • Group Project Finalization: Prepare final presentation (e.g., skit, travel project, poster)
    Afternoon:
    • Camp Showcase: Present projects/skits to classmates or guests
    • Certificate Ceremony & Reflection
    • Farewell Activity: Memory wall or “Letter to My Future Self in English”
    Goal: Celebrate achievements and boost confidence using English publicly.
