Passing of Rick Schwartz
The Notre Dame family is heartbroken over the sudden passing of our friend and Hound parent, Rick Schwartz.
“Rick was a down to earth, no-nonsense, solid man who simply loved his family and had their backs 100% in whatever endeavours they were involved in. I recall the hard work, effort and time that Rick and Carol put in with the Wilcox recreational board and the authentic desire they had to improve the recreational opportunities, especially hockey and skating, for the young people in the village.
Rick’s love for his family is best reflected as he and Carol supported their three children; Mandi, Rylan and Jaden, not only with their hockey and academics but most importantly in the day to day support that goes with being committed and caring parents.
Rick spent a lot of time at the Notre Dame Arena over the years. Our hockey staff and coaches are already missing him and are deeply saddened by his passing. It’s rather surreal as College staff were recently in communication with Rick about the latest updates to the Mandi Schwartz Bursary that the College provides to some of our female student-athletes.
Athol Murray College of Notre Dame considers it a privilege and honour to have Rick and the whole Schwartz family as part of the Notre Dame family. Our hearts reach out to Carol, Rylan and Jaden. Rick will be missed but definitely not forgotten. On the north end of the Duncan McNeill arena is a Notre Dame motto, “Never Lose Heart Hounds”. Not only is this motto an inspiration for our Hounds when we practice and compete in games but it is also a reminder of all of the Hounds that we carry in our hearts, both living and deceased. As this motto often reminds the Hounds of Mandi Schwartz, it will now also remind Notre Dame of Rick Schwartz" ~ President Rob Palmarin, Athol Murray College of Notre Dame
