Terry Cooney Recieves 2019 Mother Teresa Award “Friend of Notre Dame”

Terry Cooney is a proud graduate of Notre Dame from the class of 1970. Terry was married to his recently departed beloved wife Gail and is the father of three alumni children; Matt, Bridget and Luke.

 

Terry’s contributions to the works of mercy can best be described in the phrase” he instructed those who did not know”. As our past Principal, President and Director of Education, Terry was a superb leader in assisting his teachers to bring the values of the Gospel alive. This primarily happened in the classroom but it also happened in the lives of our staff. Both Terry and Gail were consistent role models who lived the message of “Love God, Love your neighbour and love the marginal (especially the forgotten hockey players) during their time at Notre Dame in the mid to late 1990’s and early 2000s.

 

Terry was not only a contributor to Catholic education throughout the province of Saskatchewan where he was also the Director of Education in the Christ the Teacher School division but he was also the first Director of Education when St. Augustines elementary school was resurrected in 2008-2009. Terry was not only a voice to our Notre Dame staff but he was a voice that carried the Gospel to educators throughout the province.

 

Terry’s works of Mercy did not stop with his professional job. He and Gail were advocates and teachers for marriage preparation, natural family planning education and chastity education for the young and those engaged to be married. Terry has also supported the dignity of the human person in his defence for the unborn and now in his current role where he is assisting seniors acquire meaningful living accommodations through his work with Trinity Manor in Regina.

 

Terry is a true Notre Dame man who is honest from centre to circumference, true to the heart’s core with a conscience as steady as a needle to the pole.
