TORONTO, Ont. - October 3, 2026 - The Notre Dame Hounds Girls Prep basketball team opened its Women's National Preparatory Association (WNPA) schedule with a strong 66-53 road victory over Victory Academy of Toronto on Saturday.
Notre Dame competes in two leagues during the 2026-27 season - the nationally based WNPA and Western Canada's PrepWest - providing the Hounds with a combination of national competition and a strong Western Canadian league schedule.
The teams were deadlocked at 26-26 at halftime before Notre Dame took control after the break. The Hounds outscored Victory 22-15 in the third quarter and 18-12 in the fourth, producing a 40-27 second-half advantage and the 13-point victory.
Christina Lee led the way with an impressive all-around performance, scoring a team-high 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting while adding nine rebounds, including seven offensive boards, and two blocked shots in just 22 minutes.
Katya Sapryga contributed 10 points and nine rebounds, including four offensive rebounds, while also recording three steals and a block. Masha Solovian finished with nine points and seven rebounds, while Mira Thi added eight points, three assists and two steals. Anna Vavryk and Skye Bergen each scored seven, with Vavryk connecting on two three-pointers and collecting eight rebounds, while Bergen added six rebounds and two steals.
Notre Dame's work on the glass was a major factor. The Hounds collected 21 offensive rebounds and held a 19-4 advantage in second-chance points. Notre Dame also forced 21 Victory turnovers and limited the hosts to just 2-of-21 shooting from three-point range.
The victory moves the Hounds to 1-0 in WNPA play as Notre Dame begins its 2026-27 campaign competing across both the WNPA and PrepWest.
