Our Hounds are back on campus

“Having everyone back on campus is so normal,” says Director of Student Life Kathie Yanko. “It’s busy, it’s inclusive and it’s loud!” She says the best part is seeing all the kids back on campus all together again.

Our students were welcomed back to the College on August 29 and 30 during our registration days, and they all participated in Orientation Day on August 31.  There was some fun had as well as students joined their House Leaders at the PAC for games, getting to know new Hounds, reaquainting themselves with returning Hounds, followed by songs at the back to school bonfire.

Principal Kate Maclean says the vibe on campus among staff and students is high energy.  “Gathering this morning for our first opening school assembly since 2019 was electrifying,” she says. She admits it was a little emotional especially when the entire school community sang the Prayer and Victory March to kick off the school year.

Grateful for the privilege of being a servant to the legacy of Pere Athol Murray as the College produces some amazing young men and women, Kate says she looks forward to celebrating with our teams on the ice, on the court and in the field. She is also excited to brag about all of their accomplishments throughout the year!

First-year Hounds Jack Littlechild ’25 and Felicia An ‘25 are excited to be a part of the Notre Dame community. Felicia says at first she was nervous, but she has settled in and feels right at home. “I’ve made a lot of new friends, it’s been a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to hockey season,” she says. Jack echoes Felicia’s sentiments and is most excited about representing the Hounds on the football field and basketball court.

House Leader Walty Pedersen '23, a two-year Hound from Saskatoon says it’s exciting to be back on campus and in the dorms. “I’m looking forward to supporting my fellow Hounds this year and making everyone feel comfortable here at ND”.

Sophie Kuzminski '23, one of our community House Leaders and a three-year Hound is also looking forward to being a leader on campus during her Grade 12 year. ‘The first few days have been great, a little overwhelming and busy but it’s going to be an awesome year for everyone.”

Kathie adds it’s going to be exciting to see all the activities and traditions return to campus that were altered or restricted over the last couple of years. “The Staff and House Leaders are committed to an amazing year.”
