Hounds Fall Behind Early But Storm Back for Thunderous Win
For most of the game on Monday night, the skies threatened rain. The sky filled with clouds, and the wind blew in traces of rain. The game did not look hopeful as the U16 Hounds fell behind the Moose Jaw Rockies 3-0 after one inning. Then the floodgates opened. After rallying for five runs in the second the Hounds stormed ahead with fifteen more runs in the third. The game was called after four innings as the Hounds achieved the fifteen-run mercy rule. The Hounds won 21-6. Dominick Campione lead the charge with three hits, including a two-run double. However, the loudest hit came off the bat of Connor Keough. His three-run HR in the third was the back breaker of the fifteen-run third inning.
Campione was just as impressive on the mound. He shut down the Rockies pitching the final 3.1 innings for the win. He gave up three runs on one hit and two walks. He struck out eight Rockies.
The defensive highlight of the night happened at the end of the game. With Rockies at second and third and one out, it looked as if they might stage a bit of a rally. The Rockies' batter laced a rocket to centre field. Hounds Centre Fielder Danil Poluyanov tracked the line drive for the second out and fired to second base to double off the runner to preserve the mercy-rule victory.
