Kolopenuk'05 Recieves Award of Excellence at the 2018 Canadian Science Policy Conference

Professor Jessica Kolopenuk’05 stood tall on the stage to a standing ovation from Canadian policy makers, as she accepted the first place Award of Excellence at the 2018 Canadian Science Policy Conference, held at the Canadian Museum of History in Ottawa.

Professor Kolopenuk’s policy proposal was titled, “An Indigenous Approach to Canada’s National Missing Persons DNA Program.”

This award recognizes a young individual (student, postdoctoral fellow, researcher, entrepreneur, etc.) under the age of 35 who developed an innovative and compelling evidence-based policy proposal that will make a positive difference to Canadians.

Professor Kolopenuk receiving her award of excellence from the Honourable Kirsty Duncan Minister of Science and Sport, and from the CSPC President and CEO Mehrdad Hariri at the Canadian Science Policy Conference in Ottawa.

Professor Kolopenuk is a professor at the University of Alberta Faculty of Native Studies. She will be defending her PhD dissertation in spring 2019.
