Mother Teresa Works of Mercy -“Friend of the College" Award

This year’s recipient of the Mother Teresa Works of Mercy Award - “Friend of the College" is truly a wonderful man. Terry O’Malley a 24 year Notre Dame veteran was our teacher, coach, administrator and President.

Terry’s "Works of Mercy" went beyond the Notre Dame outreach programs:

* Terry has been a “big brother” in Regina for over ten years, not only mentoring his little brother for seven of those years but also serving on their board.

* Terry serves on the Mother Teresa Middle School of Regina Board which was the elementary school for a number of our current grade 9, 10 and 11 students.

* He volunteers Monday mornings at the Marian Center, Regina’s noon hour soup kitchen, where he is responsible for ensuring that the men of Regina have their coffee, tea and meals. He also volunteers his time at the Marian Center doing the dishes and cleaning the bathrooms.

*He works with a gentleman from Syria once a week with the primary task of helping him read.

Listed are just a few of Terry’s outreach with the community, we could go on and on about many other small and large works of mercy that Terry is a part of, but Mother Teresa herself summarizes it best “Do things for people not because of who they are or what they do in return, but because of who you are.

On behalf of our Board of Regents, the Notre Dame Staff and our Students – we are extremely proud to present this year’s Mother Teresa Works of Mercy Award – “Friend of Notre Dame” to Terry O’Malley.
