MYLYMOK SCORES TWICE, HOUNDS STAY UNBEATEN

Telus Cup / MACKENZIE DEMPSTER

SUDBURY, Ont. – Luke Mylymok scored both goals, finding the back of the net early in the first and seconds periods and leading the Notre Dame Hounds to a 2-1 win over Lethbridge Hurricanes on Thursday at the 2018 TELUS Cup.

The Hounds are the last remaining unbeaten team, and clinched first place in the preliminary round with the win.

Notre Dame opened the scoring when Nolan Renwick and Cody Lehner set up Mylymok, who eluded a Lethbridge defenceman before beating Hurricanes goaltender Carl Tetachuk – who replaced starter Byron Fancy after an early injury – to the bottom right corner.

Mylylok wasted no time doubling the lead in the second period, picking up a loose puck and beating Tetachuk to the corner on a wraparound for the eventual game-winner.

Keegan McDowell put the Hurricanes on the board with less than eight minutes left in the second, going tape-to-tape with Kadyn Chabot and picking his spot past Hounds netminder Riley Kohonick.

Lethbridge pushed in the third period, and outshot Notre Dame 26-20 overall, but couldn’t find the game-tying goal, suffering its first loss of the tournament.

The Hounds finish the preliminary round against the Moncton Flyers on Friday afternoon (12 p.m. ET), before the Hurricanes take on the Cantonniers de Magog (3:30 p.m. ET).
