Lane Hall

Lane Hall dates back to 1912. Much of Notre Dame's history and heritage are held within the walls of this former Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce building. Harry "Bill" Lane, friend to Père and benefactor to Notre Dame, was instrumental in acquiring this facility for the College in 1938. Bill was the owner of the San Diego Padres baseball team in California and often had his scouts check on Père's baseball players. Father Murray made his home in one room on the main floor of this building between 1938 and 1958. Classes based in the Humanities, leading to a University of Ottawa B.A. (later the University of Regina) were taught here until the post-secondary program ceased in the early eighties. An extensive library of some 14,000 volumes is housed here. Over the outside entrance to Lane Hall, a replica of the Parthenon Frieze that Father Murray acquired from a bank in New York is displayed. Today, Lane Hall houses one classroom on the main floor and additional classrooms and an overnight suite on the upper level.
