Near the entrance to Max Bell Hall is a small grotto with the Christ figure mounted on the surface of a cast iron bathtub. Our College Archivist tells the story of how a figure of Christ mounted above the entrance to St. Augustine's Church fell and broke many years ago. Père picked up the pieces, handed them to Jim Williams, current Notre Dame librarian and former student, with instructions to make the unique grotto that we enjoy today.
