In 1968, two brick and mortar residences were built to accommodate male residential students at Notre Dame College. The wooden shacks used to house students prior to this time were no longer needed, and with their demise, came an end to the much publicized name, Shack College. Frederick W. Hill Hall and Max Bell Hall are now joined with a common area known as the 'link'. In 1987, four family homes were added for house parent staff families. Frederick W. Hill Hall houses 53 Badger House and 55 Woodchopper House students. It proudly bears the name of our College Chancellor and past Chairman of the Board of Regents, Frederick W. Hill, of Regina. Three generations of the Hill family have offered friendship and support to Père Murray, not only throughout his life, but also since his death. Since 1975, Mr. Hill has worked steadfastly to ensure that a great College remains on the life's work of a great man. Frederick W. Hill Monument is located in front of the Fred Hill dormitory. This life sized bronze bust commemorates Mr. Hill's life-long friendship with Père and his continuing support of Notre Dame.
