| This magnificent complex opened in the fall of 1985. It is a steel building structurally supported by some 600 piles due to the sub-soil conditions that exist in Wilcox. Of interest is the fact that about one-third of the total building cost was spent underground. |

This side of the complex houses an Olympic-sized ice surface, measuring 60 x 30 metres (approximately 200' x 100'), with seating for 1,200 people. The lower level provides dressing rooms for players, referees and coaches, a first- aid/athletic treatment room, a weight-training room, an office, a uniform storeroom and 15 "drying cages" used by teams for storing hockey equipment. Three additional rooms house the Zamboni ice resurfacer, three compressors (that provide enough cooling for summer ice) and all mechanical equipment (domestic hot water, furnaces, cooling system, dehumidifier, etc.) needed to operate the complex. The upper level lobby features seating, viewing windows to the ice surface and a campus canteen. The Wall of Fame/Student Athlete Wall honours Notre Dame Athletes and the trophy case in the lobby displays on-ice sports achievements. The Archives/Museum also uses this space for temporary exhibits.
