Archives / Museum Building

Members of the Athol Murray College of Notre Dame Alumni Association had been longing for many years to have an Archives/Museum on campus. They were influenced by the need to ensure the safe storage and display of memorabilia that has accumulated over 65 years. It was time for the Hounds to make a move for this Home of Memories. In October 1992, Hounds gathered in Wilcox to celebrate Homecoming and Thanksgiving. It was at this time that their dream became a reality with the official dedication of the Archives/Museum. This magnificent addition to the campus is home to Père's collection of Rare Books, the Parthenon Frieze, the Rex Beach Repository, 4,000 selected Lane Hall library books, the Nicholas de Grandmaison Art Portrait collection and a piece of the Berlin Wall that was donated to the College in 1990.

Dismantled from its former location at Varsity Hall, the Rex Beach Repository was reconstructed in the Archives/Museum building in the spring of 2001. The Rex Beach Repository serves as a small museum and meeting room. It houses first-edition Rex Beach novels and a great many artifacts and memorabilia acquired by Père. Rex Beach, a dear friend of Père's, was responsible, through his writing, for the first international recognition of our tiny prairie College. This project was funded by the Alberta Alumni Association.
