"For I do Not the Good I want . . . ." Rom 7.19 Father Claro's Friday Reflection Reflection October 24, 2009 Romans 7.19
We often hear people say, "That's too easy", "that's nuts for me", "I Know it"
But are we really that knowledgeable?; "are we really that capable?"; "are we really that strong?"
Saint Paul writes,
"For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I do." Rom 7.19
There is a continuous struggle between spirit and flesh- a continuous war between the good and the bad. It will never cease until our last breath.
When we want to do good, we do evil but the evil that we hate to do, we often do.
This is not because we are evil ourselves or we love to do evil.
It is often times because we are not so aware of the genuine good or the real good.
Often times, we are deceived by the evil one who comes to us in the appearance of a "good"- easy, enjoyable, pleasurable, acceptable and done by almost everyone. But deep in it is evil.
This is called the "apparent good".
A saint once wrote, if we can only see what is evil in itself- filthy, nasty and obnoxious.
Then, no one would ever commit sin again.
Evil, therefore, has the purpose to deceive us.
So, if evil is cunning, we should all the more be clever.
So, if evil has the purpose to deceive us, we should all the more be aware of all our thoughts, actions and decisions.
Clever Christians always have HIM for anything and everything
Cautious Christians always acknowledge God's help in everything
Let's be clever!!!Let's be cautious!!! Take lots of vitamin C!!! Vitamin Cs that are always available and offered to us -Confession, Communion and Christ!!! So, we can be strong.
Let us pray…
"Lord, lead us not into temptation…. But deliver us from evil…"
Our Father…
Have a healthy weekend ahead…! |
