Thanksgiving Reflection

Athol Murray College of Notre Dame

Thanksgiving Reflection - Student Assembly - October 9, 2003

Thanksgiving should be a break from our hectic lives, and a time to slow down. Mostly it should be a time to reflect on our many blessings. God has provided us with abundant gifts-some of which we may not even notice, and therefore cannot appreciate. Because our lives here at Notre Dame are busy and often stressful, it is easy to be weighted down with the duties, expectations, and wants of our day. We may not notice the brilliant fall colours, a friend's kind word, or the clean fresh scent of the air after a rain. These are the little things that bless our day, but there are "layer gifts" too! We live in a free and peaceful country, at a time when too many are at war. We have a roof over our head, never lack for food and clothing, and have the love of friends and family to support us. We have an opportunity for education and later jobs, in our country many people can only dream of what we take for granted. If we notice and show gratitude for both large and small blessings that come our way, our lives are enriched and we experience a fuller more joyful life.

Let us pray for a new awareness as we stand for the Lord's Prayer.

Have a great Thanksgiving!!
