A letter from hockey legend Roger Neilson Neilson spreads the word of God through correspondence with longtime friend Terry O'Malley The following is a letter written to Terry O'Malley by Roger Neilson a few short months before he lost his battle with cancer, June 21, 2003.
Dear Terry,
Life is short. You don't realize it until you get near the end. Then you can't believe how quickly it went by. I've been lucky. I've had a great life with a good job and many loyal friends. I've been very happy.
The most important influence in my life has been my relationships with God. As a youngster, I asked God to take over my life. I've tried to live my life for Him ever since. When you give your life to God, the Bible tells us that the Holy Spirit takes over and acts as a guide and counsellor as you go through life. When your life is over, God calls you home for a happy time forever in heaven. It's the only way to go. I could never understand how people get through life's problems without having a relationship with God. It provides stability, peace of mind and security. What could be greater that the assurance of guidance as you go through life and the security of a home in heaven when your life is over.
I kow that God loves me and sent his son Jesus to die for me as a sacrifice so that I may have the opportunity to have this relationship with Him. In return I've tried, not always successfully, to live a Christian life that will honour Him. This is the key to successful living.
I am urging you to ask God to take over your life. It will be the best move you could ever make.
How great will it be when we meet in heaven someday! The worst thing could be to go through life and never experience God's plan for you. Needless to say, I feel very strongly about this.
That's why I'm sending you this letter. I'd be most happy to discuss this with you. Also, you can view www.powertochange.com or www.billygraham.org on the internet.
Your friend,
Roger
