Sean Hope-Ross Says Good-Bye 2002/05/22 I decided to write this down instead of winging it like I usually would – that way I don’t have to make any eye contact and I can just bury my head and read. I know a few of you expect me to give a long speech today, but after trying to say good-bye at the Junior A banquet I think I’ll keep this short. I actually told Denny I had decided not to speak before leaving, but to quote Brian McNary it’s the least I could do before I “peace out” on all of you. I also want to keep this short in order to limit the amount of time that Polly can make fun of my ears while I stand up here.
To be honest, I didn’t have much time over the past few weeks to think about moving on. It wasn’t until the last day or so that it kinda hit home with everybody stopping by and asking for my new email address and phone number in Calgary, certain people leaving nice little notes in the Acceleration day planner, and students asking if they can take me for supper or to just stop by for a last minute visit in the dorm. I wish I had the time to visit with each of you individually for a few minutes before I leave, but we all know how busy everybody is this time of year. I want to thank all of the staff and students for the past three years. I’m proud of the job I have done in the fitness centre, and of the new position I’ll be starting next week in Calgary. I’m excited about moving home, but sad to be leaving Notre Dame.
The biggest sense of pride that I feel today is being able to call all of you my friends. I’ll miss Notre Dame, and I’ll especially miss all of you that have made my time here enjoyable. I could go on and on, but hopefully I’ll get to see most of you over the next day or so to say good-bye individually.
Thank you for a great three years, and good luck to each of you in the future. Please keep in touch, and look me up if you are in Calgary. I hope that I’ve had as much of an impact on your lives as you’ve had on mine. Thanks again for everything.
