HOCKEY AT NOTRE DAME

Hockey at Notre Dame

   Men's Hockey Program

The Notre Dame’s Men’s Hockey program is one of the most prestigious programs in Canada. Notre Dame’s hockey teams play at all levels in Bantam, Midget and Junior A age categories. At the Midget level there may be occassions where more than one team plays in the same league. All team participants must be full time students at Athol Murray College of Notre Dame. Notre Dame is registered with the Saskatchewan Hockey Association and with Hockey Canada.

Notre Dame has 9 men’s hockey teams:

  • 2 Bantam
  • 6 Midget
  • 1 Junior A

Bantam players are 14 years and younger, Midget Players are 17 years and younger, while Junior A is for players aged 20 years and younger. All ages are as of December 31st of the current season. Players are on the ice four to six times per week including practices and games. Notre Dame’s Olympic sized ice surface is the only one in the province of Saskatchewan.

To select our men’s teams, our coaching staff will use a combination of practices, fitness components, scrimmages, and exhibition games to select their teams prior to October 1st.

The Midget AAA Male Hounds won back to back National Telus Cup Champships in 2009 & 2010.

   Women's Hockey Program

Women’s hockey is a growing sport in North America and Notre Dame is on the leading edge of its development. Our teams have produced over 100 NCAA & CIS female athletes who have received athletic scholarships.

Over the course of the last 10 years female hockey players at Notre Dame have been awarded in excess of $5 million in athletic/academic scholarships.

Notre Dame has 3 female hockey teams:

  • JWHL
  • AAA Midget
  • Midget

To select our female teams our coaching staff will use a combination of resources throughout the year to commit players to the JWHL team prior to the start of the year. For all other teams a combination of practices, fitness components, scrimmages, and exhibition games will be used to select their teams prior to October 1st.

During the 2010-2011 season the Midget AAA Hounds won the National Female Midget Championship.

   Athletic Therapy at Notre Dame

What is Athletic Therapy?

A Certified Athletic Therapist is a health professional who specializes in the human musculoskeletal system. They provide a variety of services including injury prevention, emergency care, injury assessment and rehabilitation, as well as prophylactic taping and bracing techniques.

Athletic Therapists take an active approach to injury rehabilitation resulting in a quick return to activity. Generally speaking, athletic therapy focuses on the rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries. Prevention and immediate care are also touched on as well. Basically, athletic therapists assess the functioning capabilities of injured muscles, and will work towards treating any dysfunction that might have arisen. Oftentimes, athletic therapists will work with athletes to educate them on how to prevent certain injuries from occurring. They may also touch on emergency protocol when dealing with certain injuries, as well. Furthermore, athletic therapists will often develop specialized conditioning programs, and will focus on emergency and acute care in the case of a situation during an athletic event.

Services offered for all Notre Dame students:

  • Emergency Care
  • Injury Prevention
  • Functional Movement Screening
  • Injury Assessment and Rehabilitation
