Hockey at Notre Dame The Athol Murray College of Notre Dame has established itself internationally as a forerunner in the development of the whole athlete - on and off the ice. Through a balanced approach, Notre Dame has produced NHL, semi-pro, European, Olympic, NCAA and Canadian college hockey players at a disproportionately high rate. Many of hockey's current and all-time greats are Hounds, including Brad Richards, Vincent Lecavalier, Rod Brind' Amour, Curtis Joseph and Wendel Clark
Over the years, Notre Dame has won provincial and league championships at all minor hockey, Junior 'A' and female levels, with many graduates earning valuable scholarships to institutions in Canada and the U.S. Since 2002, Notre Dame graduates and Jr. 'A' players have accumulated almost $5 million in post-secondary awards.
Notre Dame's female hockey program has proven particularly successful in recent years. As the 2005 Western Canadian Shield gold medal champions, the senior team is considered the top female Midget squad in Western Canada. Notre Dame female hockey players are regularly scouted by Team Canada, NCAA and Canadian college reps. In 2005, all nine female graduating players received scholarship offers!
All coaches at Notre Dame are educators who have played and excelled in the sport themselves. Notre Dame teams play on their own Olympic-sized indoor ice surface and travel to tournaments across North America. |
